TUAREG BOWLS (SOLD)
Origin: MALI
Materials: Wood
Description:

Tuareg is a term used to identify numerous diverse groups of people who share a common language and a common history living in the regions surrounding the Sahara desert.
Most Tuareg are veiled desert nomads known as warriors and traders.
The Tuareg see the Sahara as dozens of different deserts each with its own name depending on its aridness, elevation and vegetation, which goes collectively by the name "Tinariwen", in Tamasheq, the main dialect of the Tuareg people. The Tuaregs are also known as the "blue people" for the indigo dye coloured clothes they traditionally wear and which stains their skin.
They are famous for their beautiful jewellery, leatherwork and woodwork, all of which are created by the Enaden, a separate caste of blacksmiths. Wooden bowls are carved out of hardwoods, making them durable and multi functional. Most of the bowls are decoratively carved on the outside with geometrical shapes.
