HAND BEADED SHIELDS - CAMEROON (SOLD)
Origin: CAMEROON
Materials: Wood, Glass beads & Cowrie  Shells
Description:

In Cameroon, shields were initially used as defensive weapons in battle. However, more recently as the nature and frequency of battle have changed, they have become ornamental pieces, and are sometimes used in ritual ceremonies for their symbolism. Like those seen among other African tribes, the original shields had beautiful deep etchings which held tribal significance. Our collection of shields is beautifully crafted by artisans in Cameroon out of the country’s native hardwood, and decorated in glass beads. Each colour and motif infuses them with cultural symbolism.
