Description:

Bogolanfini translates to 'mud cloth' in the Bamana dialect. Handwoven and decorated with natural pigments, the mud cloth continues to be an important part of Bamana culture, used in ceremonies marking important life-cycle stages.  The slubby cotton textile is woven on narrow-width looms by men in the community. The plain cloth is painted on by women using pigments made of mud and indigenous leaves.
