YORUBA BEADED CHAIR (BLACK/WHITE)
Origin: NIGERIA
Materials: Wood; Fibre and Glass Beads
Description:

Beaded Yoruba chairs were once reserved for Yoruba kings and queens. Decorated with thousands of glass beads, carefully hand-stitched onto the chair’s fabric covering, these functional works of art take months to create. The designs carry meaning inspired by the deep mythologies of the Yoruba people, from spiritual significance through to highlighting strength, wisdom, power and wealth. No two chairs are alike, and each one’s beadwork carries with it the rhythm of the hands which created it, as well as the centuries-long evolution of a craft developed by one of the largest and most significant artistic cultures on the African continent.
