Hand-carved from one single piece of wood by the Tonga people, the ethnic group of southern Zambia/ neighbouring northern Zimbabwe. These stools traditionally served as functional, portable status symbols for elders, heads of households, and leaders. They were used for sitting during community meetings, representing authority and personal identity, while modern uses include decorative home decor, such as small tables, decorative pedestals or seats.
