Untanned leather from Dharmavaram comes to life in the enigmatic light sculpture AKASHA 1 inspired by the intricate art of Tholu Bommalata leather puppetry. This light sculpture highlights the brilliance of punctures and perforations that transform the material into a canvas for light-play.
The name AKASHA is derived from the cloudy natural form of untreated leather, a byproduct material. The artist Andrea took to the marbly quality of leather, moved away from ornamentation, instead focusing on the core essence ‘Guna’ of the craft: perforations, light and layers.
