BIDRI JUG BY STEPHEN COX
Origin: India
Materials: Sterling Silver inlay on an alloy of copper and zinc
Description:

"Jugs have anthropomorphic characteristics used by many cultures through time, from Mesopotamia to Maya to the eponymous English Toby Jug with head or figure. Bringing Bidri to the genre, I have used the figure in the instance of the 'Bidri Jug’. Bidri is often used for the decoration of vessels, including hookah pipe vessels, vases, and jugs. The ‘lip’ of the jug, the handles as arms, lend themselves to expression in my pieces of Bidriware."
