KASERA 2 CHAIR BY DAVID JOE THOMAS
Origin: Bangalore
Description:

The KASERA seating collection is the fruit of a creative collaboration between architect-designer David Joe Thomas and tape basket weavers and cane furniture weavers through a sharing of their respective knowledge systems. The colour partnerships of the weave, the central feature of the seats, were developed with weavers from Karaikudi. The usage and combination of colours are intuitive to them because of their background in weaving baskets as well as the larger context of colour representation in other aspects of their region, from clothing to architecture.

Architect David Joe Thomas is an MA Spatial Design graduate from The Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen. He previously worked with architectural practices like Studio Mumbai, Mathew & Ghosh, Rick Joy and David Chipperfield. Thomas moved to India from London in 2023 and currently runs an architecture and design practice based in Bangalore. The Kasera seating series is part of Thomas' ongoing collaboration with KAASH, which has previously included commissions of varying scales ranging from objects, exhibition design and the design of a new studio space.
